Why Hire a Guide?

The best reason to hire a Guide is to save time and effort by getting the best   local information available... where to fish, what flies or lures to use, which stretch of water is best for which species, where to find wading access or land owner permission. If you are fishing a new water for the first time a guide is worth every penny and should be thought of as a smart move!

What to  look for in a Guide

Guides aren't in it for the money. Guiding is a lifestyle at best. If we have a passion for something we are usually very good at it. Guides have a passion for fishing!   A successful guide's business is  based on their reputation, and word of mouth referrals are their cheapest  and best advertising. You should ask for references. Top guides will gladly give you several.  The best guides have to be knowledgeable and friendly companions who make a day spent on or in the water a very memorable and pleasant experience regardless of how good the catching  is. They have to be articulate and personable or they won't be in business long at all!

All the best brook trout, maine fly fishing, fly fishing in maine,Maine Fly FishingGuides are excellent teachers Who can tremendously increase your knowledge base. There is always something new to learn! I have learned something new with every client and I, in turn , pass it on. It can be as simple as a better way to explain a new or old technique, a new knot or fly pattern that works, from somewhere else in the country . Learning should be a two way street.

I spend over 140 days a year on the water guiding!  That is the only way to really KNOW the water! How else can you know the best patterns, the most productive runs, riffles, and pools? On every float or wade I gain some useful insight about the Fishery. This allows me to pass on a tremendous amount of knowledge and expertise to clients that just isn't available to them any other way.

You should look for the guide traits listed above in any guide you hire. If you find them you'll have yourself an Excellent Guide!

Hiring a Professional guide is money well spent!
