Let the Predator become the prey!
Hunt and Learn from a master!!!!

I went out Saturday for a hike and thought I'd try calling for Coyote and Fox . I need to warm up for the winter hunts. There is a small pond about a mile and a half from my home, so I headed for it. I set up about a quarter of a mile from the pond and went through my routine, but to no avail. I moved up the west side of the pond about half way and set up just inside the treeline on the edge of the heath that surrounds the pond. I really got into the routine. After finishing the calling I thought about moving, but decided to wait a little longer. Patience is a virtue! The wind was shifting to my left, so I wasn't watching that direction closely. I caught movement to the left and standing there at thirty-five yards was a big black male coyote looking in my direction! I'm left handed so this was a problem to try and make the shot . The coyote walked broad side right in front of me and stopped at twenty yards. There was movement to the left again and a blond coyote is standing looking right in my direction.

Maine coyote hunts, maine predator hunts, I've got two coyotes looking for lunch!!! The blond had a clear view of my position from the left, so I decide to try for the Black one. OH, did I mention the load of adrenaline I now had? The crosshairs came down onto the center of the chest and I squeezed off the shot. CLICK!!! The first coyote of the season and I had a dud round in the chamber.

Both of them take off with the black running straight across the pond and stopping on the tree line about a hundred and twenty-five yards away by the time I could get another round chambered. I fired and missed. I'd have been lucky to hit the tree in front of me after that round miss-fired!

That's what its like hunting coyotes. They come in like a ghost. I love it!
