10 Tips on
Calling
TEN
TIPS TO SUCCESSFUL CALLING
- Know
your adversary.
Read all you can on the
Northeastern Coyote.
- Practice
whatever
animal distress call you’re using. What would they
sound like?
- Know
the terrain: maps,
aerial photos are available on line—Use them!
- Patience
and
Persistence.
Don’t go out and call a couple of times and quit. Call
all day! Calling Coyotes is a numbers game.
Keep trying.
- Use
cover scents: Fox and “rabbit” urine.
Any Coyote will come in on
a fox. Two meals are better than one!
- Wind.
If
Coyotes hear the call they’ll come in. But try to
circle downwind,
use the terrain to block the downwind side or place
someone
to cover that
approach.
- Scout.
Coyotes move.
Look for fresh sign.
- Camouflage.
Use it.
Blend in ,use a backdrop to break up your outline.
- Call
at each location for 15-20 minutes, then
move on.
- Pay
attention and
watch for movement! Coyotes, most of the time, will just appear.
That’s why they are called the “Timber Ghost”.
GOOD HUNTING!
