10 Tips on Calling

TEN TIPS TO SUCCESSFUL CALLING

  1. Know  your adversary.  Read all you can on the  Northeastern Coyote.
  2. Practice whatever  animal distress call you’re using. What would they sound like?
  3. Know the terrain: maps,  aerial photos are available on line—Use them!
  4. Patience and  Persistence.  Don’t go out and call a couple of times and quit. Call all day! Calling Coyotes is a numbers game.  Keep trying.
  5. Use cover scents: Fox and “rabbit” urine.  Any Coyote will come in on  a fox. Two meals are better than one!
  6. Wind.  If  Coyotes hear the call they’ll come in. But try to circle downwind,  use the terrain to block the downwind side or place someone  to cover that  approach.
  7. Scout. Coyotes move.  Look for fresh sign.
  8. Camouflage. Use it.  Blend in ,use a backdrop to break up your outline.
  9. Call at each location for 15-20 minutes, then  move on.
  10. Pay attention and watch for movement! Coyotes, most of the time, will just appear. That’s why they are called the “Timber Ghost”.

GOOD HUNTING!
